Dear John,

Many seniors living on fixed incomes for years have pulled me aside and asked: “Why does the federal government tax my Social Security?”

Well, it doesn’t make sense to me either.

That’s why, this week, I introduced the You Earn It, You Keep It Act. This bill would stop federal taxes on Social Security payments while ensuring that the program is around for future generations. If passed into law, this bill would protect the benefit payments for middle-class seniors receiving Social Security and would not raise Social Security taxes on any individual making under $250,000/year. This legislation would also improve the long-term solvency of Social Security compared to current law – ensuring that this critical retirement program is able to support American retirees for years to come.

Here are some other highlights from the week:

Working with Constituents for Solutions in Our Communities
This week I met with city officials and concerned residents in New Prague to discuss concerns about service and safety issues at the Post Office. Unfortunately, USPS officials declined to join us and refused my request to tour the facility. This is unacceptable. I listened to your concerns about safety and ADA accessibility at the New Prague Post Office – and have asked USPS to engage here.

Supporting Veterans in MN02
This week I visited Believet Canine Service in Northfield – an organization that trains dogs to be service animals and then matches them with local veterans. They are truly an amazing group of people working to help veterans in our community!

Making Sure Your Tax Dollars Are Being Put to Good Use
I was proud to secure $1.75 million in federal grant dollars to refurbish the Dakota County Technical College driving track. This week I saw first-hand how local law enforcement officials use the track to train to keep our families safe.

Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:

I am always happy to connect with young people in the South Metro – especially those with a shared passion for public service. This week I was honored to help some Boy Scout troops earn their citizenship badges – and we talked about nuclear power! Congratulations, Scouts!

It's been a great week here in MN02 and I hope you can agree! Can’t wait to catch up with you again next week.

Until next time,
