Dear John,Our nation mourns yet another targeted attack on the Jewish community. On Wednesday, some 30,000 students sheltered in place during a shootout in an Orthodox community in Jersey City, New Jersey. After a splay of more than 100 bullets, two gunmen shot and killed one police officer and three civilians.
Detective Joseph Seals, 40, a 15-year-veteran of the police department who had led its work to remove guns from the streets.
Mindy Ferencz, 33, a co-owner of the Kosher deli targeted by the gunmen.
Moshe Deutsch, 24, a yeshiva student and activist killed while buying lunch.
Douglas Miguel Rodriguez, 49, an employee of the deli who had immigrated from Ecuador.
This tragedy is a reminder that we must work harder to disarm hate. Time and time again, we find that our nation's weak gun laws make hate lethal. Across the country, anti-Semitism hate crimes are rising, increasing by 13% last year alone. We urgently need meaningful action to keep guns away from those filled with hate.

Seeking Justice for Sandy Hook Victims and Families
Today marks seven years since the gun massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Armed with an assault weapon — a weapon known for its lethality and ability to shoot and kill quickly — it took the Sandy Hook killer just four minutes and 154 bullets to murder 20 children and six adults.

[[link removed]]Last month, Brady Legal helped usher in a win for Sandy Hook families when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that they can move forward with their lawsuit against Remington, the manufacturer of the assault weapon used by the killer. The case argues that Remington recklessly marketed the murder weapon — the Bushmaster AR-15-style assault rifle — to civilians through a campaign that targeted young men with violent tendencies. Now, seven years after the shooting, a final trial date has been set for September 2021.

New Jersey has strong gun laws. But this week’s shooting in Jersey City is a reminder that while laws stop at state borders, the flow of crime guns does not. Our combating crime guns program has boots on the ground in New Jersey to reduce the trafficking and distribution of crime guns within the state [[link removed]] . Launched earlier this year, the program is a partnership with Gov. Phil Murphy, city mayors, and the New Jersey Center on Gun Violence Research (NJGVR) at Rutgers University. Pushing to "Advance Peace" in Calfornia
Brady knows policy is just one way to stop gun violence. That is why we joined Giffords Law Center, Moms Demand Action, and other organizations across California to urge the City Manager of Sacramento to continue its contract with Advance Peace. An innovative violence interruption model, the program provides resources — including education, job training, addiction services, and counseling — to those most at risk of being a perpetrator or victim of gun violence. And evidence proves it works! Thanks to Advance Peace, the City of Richmond experienced a 66% reduction in firearm assaults between 2007-2017. This week, gun violence prevention advocates everywhere were inspired by the powerful words by Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo. He was commenting about the murder of Sgt. Christopher Brewster [[link removed]] , an officer who was responding to a domestic abuse call when he was shot and killed by the victim's abusive partner. Chief Acevedo set the record straight. Not only did he call out Sen. McConnell for refusing to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) to close the deadly "boyfriend loophole," but he also named exactly why that's so — because McConnell's in the NRA's pocket.
