We’re finally getting the train on the track! (Excuse the pun.)
Earlier this month, I joined Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and other leaders for the groundbreaking of the new Portal North Bridge, a major first step in the Gateway Tunnel project.
This has been a long time coming -- I’ve even been called the “tunnel-obsessed Congresswoman” because I’ve been fighting for Gateway since I first ran.
I knew this was too important a mission to give up on. The Gateway Tunnel is our country’s most significant infrastructure project. It’ll make a big difference not just for New Jersey but for our national economy. That’s why I fought to get the bipartisan infrastructure deal over the finish line last year to secure funding for Gateway and make this happen.
The New Portal North Bridge will replace the 110-year-old swing bridge with a new, modern bridge over the Hackensack River, improving service and reliability along the Northeast Corridor. It means no more guy with a hammer slamming pieces of track in place so trains can cross the bridge.
So much of our district falls along these rail corridors and as New Jerseyans’ commutes deteriorate so does their quality of life. A train delay can mean a missed meeting or soccer game or family dinner. We’re fixing that.
We still have a long road ahead of us when it comes to Gateway and there’s so much more I want to do for New Jerseyans. Your contributions help our campaign prepare for Election Day -- which is less than three months away! -- so I can return to the House and keep fighting for NJ priorities.
