Five LGBTQ Stories You Should Know About

1. HISTORIC Primary Wins in Alaska!

Spotlight candidates Jennie Armstrong and Andrew Gray won their primary elections for the Alaska state House! Both received over 50% of the votes and are now headed to the general election as the frontrunners.

Alaska is one of four states without any LGBTQ lawmakers. When Jennie and Andrew win in November, they will be the first out LGBTQ people ever elected to the Alaska state legislature. Click here to read the full release on Jennie and Andrew's wins.

2. Record Number of LGBTQ Asian American and Pacific Islander Candidates

Tweet from @NBCAsianAmerica: In 2020, only 23 candidates nationwide identified as both Asian and LGBTQ. This year, there are 41, according to Victory Fund.

Victory Fund spoke with NBC News last week about the wave of LGBTQ Asian American and Pacific Islander candidates running this election cycle. 3. Game Changing Ads!

Many of our Game Changer candidates dropped new ads this week! Sharice Davids released a new ad that emphasizes her ability to pass bipartisan legislation to construct modern infrastructure and create jobs for the state of Kansas. The ad "6 AM" showcases Rep. Davids meeting with construction workers who are improving local bridges, roads and other critical pieces of infrastructure. Watch the ad here.

Game Changer candidate Maura Healey released an ad focused on her ability to commit to teamwork on the court as a professional basketball player and in the court as Attorney General. If elected, she would be one of the first lesbian governors in U.S. history (together with Tina Kotek in Oregon). Watch the full ad here.

Mondaire Jones, who is facing a crowded primary for U.S. Congress in New York, released "The Hit," an ad focused on his record of being pro-choice and pro-democracy. Watch the full ad here

4. "You'll want to remember his name"

School board candidate Brian Alston-Carter was highlighted by LGBTQ Nation for his courageous run for the Sumter School District Board of Trustees. Brian opened up about his coming out experience and how he plans to ensure the safety of LGBTQ students in schools. Read the full story here!

5. Eric Sorensen's Winning Strategy in His Tossup Race for Congress
