Weekly Wrap-Up: Protect Life

This week, the House is out of session. I’m grateful to spend time here in the 9th district visiting with constituents and learning about the great work that many are doing. One such organization is the Human Coalition Women’s Care Clinic in Charlotte, NC.

Abortion industry advocates work without end to convince mothers that abortion is their only option. Groups like the Human Coalition instead provide needed support to expectant mothers during their pregnancies and after their children are born. They are building a pro-life, holistic, comprehensive care network to help rescue these women and their children from abortion.

The individuals that support the Human Coalition are advocates for babies, mothers, and families. The faculty and staff of the Human Coalition are doing excellent work in North Carolina and across the country. I was honored to meet with them this week to learn more about that crucial mission.

Dem’s Can’t Defend Their Latest Tax Hike

On Wednesday, I sat down with the Family Research Council to discuss the Democrats' latest economic disaster.

On a party-line vote last week, Democrats rammed through their disastrous tax and spend legislation. Now, they can’t even defend their own bill. Moments after passing the bill, Representative Jamie Raskin claimed that the bill had already helped inflation. When asked to explain how this bill is helping American families, Rep. Raskin had no answers.

I discussed this disastrous legislation, the overzealous DOJ, and many other topics on the show.

Terminating the Department of Education

This week, I co-sponsored my colleague, Rep. Thomas Massie’s, bill to eliminate the federal Department of Education (HR 899).

The bill's scope is simple and is only one sentence long.

“The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2022.”

The unelected bureaucrats in Washington, DC have no place overseeing our children’s intellectual future. States, local communities, and parents are best suited to help oversee a child’s curriculum. As countries like China and Japan continue to jump leaps and bounds ahead of the United States, our children cannot be left behind.

Our education system is not serving our childrens' needs. I support eliminating the bureaucratic bloat dragging down our education system, and instead, returning these decisions to state and local authorities.

The 2022 Congressional App Challenge

Students in District 9 interested in coding are invited to compete in this year’s National Congressional App Challenge. Individuals or teams may submit their application for any digital platform (web app, desktop/PC app, a web browser extension, robot, Ruby on Rails, mobile, etc.) and can use any programming language (C/C++, Objective C, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, PHP, Swift, “block code”, etc.).

App submissions must show some degree of functionality to be competitive!

Now Hiring Fall Interns!

My Washington, D.C., office is now hiring interns for this fall. Internships are open for students who will be living in or around Washington, DC during the fall months between September and December of 2022. All internships are paid and offer students the opportunity to gain invaluable work experience.

Interns will be asked to answer phones, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, assist the communications team, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.
