Celebrating 60 years: Join us for two virtual events celebrating the legacy of Senator Ted Kennedy

Featuring Melody Barnes, Patricia Knight, Michael Myers, Sen. Alan Simpson,
Jeff Blattner, Judge Patti Saris, and Sec. Margaret Spellings
In honor of the 60th Anniversary of Senator Kennedy's senate service, join the Edward M. Kennedy Institute, former staffers, political collaborators, and elected officials for two dynamic conversations reflecting on the decades of collaboration and bipartisan accomplishments from the Senator's impactful career of pushing forward public policy. These two events on September 13 at 1:00pm EST and September 20 at 12:00pm EST will be hosted virtually and feature diverse panels of speakers who worked with Senator Kennedy across his illustrious career.
Working Across the Aisle

The first virtual program in commemoration of the 60^th anniversary of the beginning of Ted Kennedy’s long and impactful career as a United States Senator will feature key members of Senator Kennedy’s staff and political collaborators discussing how the late Senator pursued bipartisanship to push forward public policy.

In Working Across the Aisle ([link removed]) , we are honored to be joined by a dynamic panel to discuss how Senator Kennedy used the tactics of bipartisanship and goal-oriented strategy to push forward public policy. This virtual program will include historical context and first-person accounts reflecting on Senator Kennedy’s accomplishments as the fifth-longest continuously serving member of the United States Senate.

The conversation will include:
* Melody Barnes, Executive Director, UVA Karsh Center of Democracy and Senator Kennedy’s former chief counsel on Judiciary Committee;
* Patricia Knight, former Chief of Staff to Senator Orrin Hatch
* Michael Myers, former Managing Director of Policy, the Rockefeller Foundation, Senator Kennedy’s former chief counsel and staff director
* Senator Alan Simpson (R-WY)

Balancing Powers

The second virtual program in commemoration of the 60^th anniversary of the beginning of Ted Kennedy’s long and impactful career as a United States Senator will examine how Senator Kennedy drew upon his collaborations with 10 presidential administrations to achieve great policy strides and help shape the U.S. courts.

In Balancing Powers ([link removed]) , we examine how Senator Kennedy's work as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee helped shape the U.S. Courts. A panel of former members of the Judiciary Committee, Department of Education, and Staff counsel to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary will discuss the decades-long successes of Senator Kennedy working with presidential administrations to create and support common agendas.

The conversation will include:
* Jeff Blattner, Special Assistant Attorney General, Colorado Dept. of Justice, former chief counsel on Judiciary Committee
* Judge Patti Saris, US District Court Judge
* Secretary Margaret Spellings, former Secretary of Education
