Happy Friday and happy back-to-school week in the Lowcountry!
As summer comes to a close, we hope everyone is ready for a productive year back in the classroom. This is always such an exciting time in our household!
It’s been a busy week for our team as we’ve met with many of you all across the district and worked to learn more about the issues that matter most to you.
At the end of last week, I voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, legislation which does little to address the root causes of inflation and will do little to help struggling families in South Carolina. If we want to stop the buck, stem the tide of inflation, we would be cutting taxes and spending money we have (not borrowing from China). I’m committed to helping prevent wasteful and unnecessary spending like this bill, and we will continue to work to help stop reckless spending in Washington.
On Monday, our team hosted Cocktails with Your Congresswoman on beautiful Hilton Head Island. Thank you to everyone who came out to this fun event and enjoyed kicking off the week with our team. We appreciated hearing your feedback and learning more about the issues facing Hilton Head in the coming year.
On Tuesday night, we attended the retirement ceremony for State Representative Joe Danning. He represents my hometown of Goose Greek, and we enjoyed celebrating his incredible career serving the people of the Lowcountry. Mayor Habib even presented Rep. Daning with Goose Creek’s first Key to the City and announced that the City’s new amphitheater will be named after him.
Tuesday was also a day to celebrate America’s Paratroopers. On national Airborne day, we thank all the brave men and women who have served our country as paratroopers.
Thursday night, we joined fellow federal and state elected officials at the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce’s Washington night in Columbia, SC. I joined in a town hall conversation with other representatives from across our state to discuss issues facing businesses, employers and employees. Did you know small businesses are part of the backbone of the Lowcountry economy and account for about 60% of all employment in the first congressional district? We are always looking to support businesses in SC!
This afternoon we will be hosting another Cocktails with your Congresswoman event in Summerville SC at the Legend Oaks Golf Club. Please join us from 2:00-3:00pm today at 118 Legend Oaks Way, Summerville, SC 29485 to meet our team and get an update from DC. We look forward to seeing you there!
Our office is still in search of interns for the fall. If you are interested in joining our team in Charleston, Beaufort or Washington please fill out an application here. These are incredible opportunities to gain experience, learn about the legislative process, and learn more about public service!
Are you living in the Lowcountry with an adorably cute dog? Every weekend, we highlight one District Dog on our social media platforms. Submit your dog here.
As always, if you need us, call us. Whether you need help with a passport, issues with receiving your tax refund or the Veterans Administration, please reach out to our office if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to be heard on any issue at any time.
It’s an immense honor to serve each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
|
