Will they shut down the pro-life movement for good?

Summer Fundraising Campaign - Day 5

They want YOU alone, ashamed, frightened – and silent.
Dear Supporter,

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

This is the 13^th rule in Saul Alinksy’s 1971 Rules for Radicals – a book which he actually dedicated to “Lucifer” (“the very first radical”).

The radical pro-abortion lobby is very predictable. Many of its acolytes are playing from Alinsky’s rule book – and they’re trying to use this 13^th rule against us right now.

You might have heard about the desperate media attacks made against SPUC in the weeks since the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

It is said that if “you're taking flak, you're over the target”. The Abortion Empire clearly knows that SPUC is the real threat to their killing machine.

SPUC won’t be bullied into backing off when unborn babies’ lives are at stake.

The reason for these attacks is obvious. Just as a “constitutional right” to abortion was overturned in America, so too abortion can be overturned in the UK – with your support.

It took American pro-lifers decades of prayer, care, and education to achieve what the abortion zealots thought impossible.

Soon after the announcement, the pro-abortion MP Stella Creasy said:

"No one thought [the] American Supreme Court would ever overturn a right previously granted either..."

And she also said:

"You think what you see in America couldn’t happen here? Then you don’t understand who is organising in UK politics… SPUC lobby hard..."

Abortion zealots know that we are the most significant pro-life group in the country.

That is why the mainstream media have focused their sights on SPUC and are publishing hit-piece after hit-piece against us.

They fear us. They want us silenced. They want ALL talk of abortion stopped.

Vice News’ hit-piece

You might remember that the struggling internet website VICE News recently ran an article attacking SPUC.

They accused SPUC of being “deliberately obfuscated and shadowy” about our funding, which includes a small number of donations from overseas supporters.

There’s nothing shadowy about our funding. We just don’t give supporter details to hostile media companies – or anyone else. That’s because we are compliant with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations).

But Vice is hardly in a position to sling mud on the grounds of overseas support.

In 2019, the “stalling growth” of this “once-hot new media company” (as The Wall Street Journal called them) led to a cool $250 million investment from global pro-abortion promoter George Soros and others.

The gulf in resources between SPUC and the organs of the Abortion Empire is enormous.

Imagine what SPUC could do for our precious unborn babies with $250 million!

Donate ([link removed])
Even if we don’t have $250 million and powerful global investors, SPUC are not alone, and VICE has much to be bitter about.

Their readership cannot compete with SPUC supporters’ generosity and dedication to the cause of saving innocent babies.

The Big Issue’s hit-piece and "buffer zones"

Soon after Vice’s shameful tabloid hit-piece, The Big Issue joined the pile-on.

This article was about attempts to impose “buffer zones”, which prohibit and censor pro-life activities - a catastrophic risk to civil liberties and to unborn babies and their mothers.

The Big Issue article quoted Rachael Clarke of BPAS – the UK’s biggest abortion provider.

But it did not ask her about BPAS's Doncaster facility, which was found wanting in a June CQC (Care Quality Commission) inspection.

This inspection found that four patients were transferred to hospital between September 2021 and March 2022 – and the CQC threatened the facility with closure in November 2021.

Rather than ask Clarke about BPAS’ shameful treatment of women, The Big Issue chose to ask her about pro-lifers. She said that BPAS:

"...regularly received reports of women feeling harassed and intimidated, as well as of false medical information being handed out by pro-life protesters."

That’s not what mother-in-need “Jenny” said about pro-life vigils. She didn’t want to have an abortion but felt like she had no choice. She said:

"I didn’t find any aggression from the pro-lifers outside Ealing Clinic – at all.

“They just told me, we’re here if you need us.

“The potential introduction of buffer zones is a really bad idea, because women like me – what would they do then?

“Pavement counsellors offer alternatives.

“I had my baby Shona almost a year ago. She’s an amazing baby, perfectly healthy."

Shona would not be here today if it were not for pro-life vigils and counsellors.
Make no mistake.

Pro-life vigils cost the killers of unborn babies hundreds of pounds in revenue each time a mother speaks to a pro-life counsellor and decides to keep her baby.

If BPAS truly had the interests of women at heart it would NOT repeatedly place its patients’ health at risk.

As for the once admirable The Big Issue, their care for vulnerable members of society seems to be only skin-deep.

SPUC will not be shamed by these people.

But this wasn’t the only time these media outlets have given Britain’s biggest killing operation a free pass - as we'll see in this next hit-piece...

HuffPost’s failed attacks against SPUC

Just last month The Huffington Post tried to “expose” a theatre company as having received some financial support from SPUC for their play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

HuffPost UK said that they contacted the Fringe to ask them whether they were aware of SPUC’s anti-abortion stance.

Was this an attempt to get the play “cancelled”?

The Fringe sent these sneaks packing, saying:

"The Fringe is an open access arts festival, which means artists’ work is not programmed, curated or censored by the Society."

Having failed with the Fringe, HuffPost then went to our old friend, BPAS.

BPAS’s Katherine O’Brien provided a truly remarkable example of what psychologists call “projection” – attributing one’s own faults to an innocent other:

"Life Voice [a SPUC project] peddle scientifically inaccurate, and potentially damaging, abortion myths, suggesting that ending a pregnancy can have ‘serious and life long consequences’ for women. This is simply untrue."

Try telling that to Obstetrician Dr Peter Boylan for example – an abortion advocate, who nonetheless admitted that DIY chemical abortions at home can lead to “… very, very serious consequences for women.” He said:

"We have knowledge of women who have taken them in excessive dosage and that can result in catastrophe for a woman such as a rupture of the uterus with very significant haemorrhage."

In fact, by saying that these claims are “simply untrue”, O’Brien contradicts her own employers at BPAS.

BPAS themselves recently admitted that abortion can lead to various side effects, including:

"Significant, unavoidable or frequently occurring risks" like "nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, fever/chills."

BPAS also say that there is a 2-3% risk of “retaining products of conception”, with a risk of infection.

They describe more serious complications including:

* Haemorrhage
* Undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy
* Psychological problems
* Death

(Can any consequence be more serious and than death?)

So who’s right – O’Brien or her employers at BPAS?
Katherine O'Brien of BPAS.
Do BPAS know that their spokesperson has been peddling "scientifically inaccurate, and potentially damaging, abortion myths" - which run contrary to BPAS's own legal warnings and disclosures in the press?

And all this makes it even more ridiculous when O’Brien says:

"We hope that SPUC and Life Voice are more upfront with their potential audience about who they really are – extreme ideologues with an indifference to truth."

Hypocrisy is the special mark of the Abortion-Industrial Complex.

But these people do not frighten SPUC.

These are not the first unscrupulous media attacks on SPUC, and they will not be the last.

This is why it is more URGENT than ever for us to get the truth out and counter these harmful narratives.

DOUBLING-DOWN ON OUR AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS

SPUC will not be silenced.

We have a clear and straightforward vision: we want a world where abortion is unthinkable.

We must bring home the FACTS about abortion to ordinary men and women, who will then change hearts and minds in their own particular spheres of influence.

We have to work with politicians, journalists, educationalists, religious leaders and healthcare professionals. We need to work with mothers and fathers, grandads and grandmas, the young and the old.

Let me tell you my plans for doing just that.

1. LEGAL CHALLENGES FOR FREE SPEECH AND FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY

Today the Abortion-Industrial Complex wants to lock up pro-lifers for praying outside abortion clinics. But it won't stop there.

They are already trying to get us barred from conference centres and public spaces.

I could tell you many stories about venues which folded under pressure just because a few pro-abortion fanatics breathed threats against them.

SPUC has a proud tradition of providing legal support to pro-lifers facing pressure.
We supported the former senior Glasgow midwives, Mary Doogan and Connie Woods (above) at the Supreme Court in London during their landmark conscientious objection case in 2014.

Elsewhere, women in the workplace are falling foul of tacit (and not so tacit) pressure from unscrupulous bosses “not to get pregnant”.

SPUC is willing to test employment law and take a high-profile legal case to defend a victim of coercion, or press for compensation for wrongdoing in the workplace.

We will always support and defend pro-lifers who need us. But the time has definitely come for SPUC to take the fight to the other side.

Venues, conference centres, service-providers, journalists and newspapers fear the fanatics more than they fear the pro-life movement – and often more than they fear the law of the land.

This is about to change. They’ve made a big mistake.

As I speak, SPUC’s legal eagles are hard at work, preparing to mount whatever response is needed to these dangerous attacks on our liberty.

But planning legal action and holding villains to account is an expensive business.

And it’s not only expensive: it’s URGENT. If we don’t push back now, the pro-abortion lobby will continue their advance. Their foot is in the door – and if we don’t act now, the fragile defences of our liberty will be breached.

SPUC's legal team have told me that we need to raise funds QUICKLY if we are to strike while the iron is hot.

Estimated initial costs for legal action to defend liberty and our babies = £50,000

2. One hundred activists in every constituency

In a previous email, I told you that SPUC’s campaign team are aiming for 100 reliable, committed supporters in each constituency.

We can achieve a lot in a constituency with just a handful of supporters. But imagine the kind of pressure we could put on MPs with a force of this kind.

Many MPs on the fence vote for abortion, because they fear pressure from their party and from the noisy abortion fanatics.

We must make sure that the pressure from us is greater.

But while campaigning is at the heart of SPUC’s mission, this is not the only reason we need to build a body of 100 activists in every constituency.

SPUC needs to tip the balance of opinion in favour of the pro-life message throughout the country.

Right now, pro-lifers are in the minority – but we are not insignificant.

Imagine how hard we could lobby if we had 100 activists in every constituency: and imagine how difficult it would be to try to suppress pro-lifers’ speech if there was a national pro-life force 65,000 strong.

The reality is that they will never find 65,000 men and women eager to kill babies.

We can and must find 65,000 men and women eager to defend life.

But building and maintaining such a large body of activists isn’t easy, and it isn’t cheap either.

We need to develop our infrastructure, strengthen our existing grassroots, reach out and recruit others, build new local branches, and mobilise everyone at a moment’s notice.

The finance department has advised me that the first stages of this plan will cost around £40,000.

We also URGENTLY need to develop the pro-life networks in each of the UK’s Parliaments and Assemblies

The finance department has advised me that employing a dedicated parliamentary officer in each of these Parliaments across the UK requires funds of £120,000.

These plans involve a massive expansion throughout Northern Ireland, Wales and the South West of England.

The more money we receive, the quicker we can extend our new infrastructure to other parts of the country.

Will you help us with a contribution towards this ambitious but ESSENTIAL goal?

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."

And yet media attacks like this are a presage of things to come. They’re using words now, but they want to crush us.

We've already seen words turn to violence in the disgraceful attacks against pro-life university students.

They’re focusing on SPUC because they know that we are the biggest and most effective pro-life group in the UK. SPUC is the front line of defence for our freedoms, and for the precious babies who will otherwise die.

We want a world where abortion is unthinkable. These fanatics are us all pushing towards a world where being pro-life will not be tolerated.

Are you going to let them?

If you are in a position to do so, will you give £30, £50 or £100 today to help us fight back, and make abortion unthinkable?

Donate ([link removed])
A one-off gift at whatever level you can afford today will enable SPUC’s management team to sanction the crucial programmes that I have outlined, which are so critical for making abortion unthinkable.

Who knows, it could be YOUR personal gift to the campaign which saves a precious baby’s life, and spares a mother the terrible anguish of going through with an abortion.

A monthly donation by Direct Debit of £5, £10 or £25 a month is another excellent way to help this happen.

When I see larger gifts of £100, £500 and £1,000 come in, I am overjoyed because I know that we will be able to save even more babies, and achieve SPUC’s vision of a Britain where abortion is unthinkable.

They want SPUC – and YOU – alone, ashamed, frightened – and silent.

But we are together.

We're proud of standing for life.

We’re not afraid of their attacks.

And we will never give in to the evil Abortion Empire.

Thank you for supporting the greatest human rights cause of our time,
John Deighan
Chief Executive
PS: Saul Alinsky also warns his "radicals" to be on their guard, because their attacks will always give their opponents (that’s us) an opportunity to grow stronger.

The media servants of the Abortion Empire will soon find out that this is true.

Their attacks are raising our profile more and more and attracting more supporters every day.

Our fellow citizens continue to be shocked when they are shown the truth about abortion. SPUC's task is to lead them in a great movement in defence of life.

But we can’t reach or inspire them without your support.

Will you help us today? Please give what you can - for our unborn children’s sake.
