Dear Neighbor,

I want to let you know about two important upcoming hearings that have a direct impact on our district. On Monday evening, the NYC Districting Commission will hold its Manhattan hearing on proposed new City Council district lines; and starting next Thursday, the MTA will hold several virtual hearings on the recently released Environmental Assessment for the implementation of congestion pricing. See below for more details on how to participate in these hearings, as well as how to submit written comments.

Also, a reminder that Early Voting for the August Primary ends this Sunday, 8/21. If you need to know where to vote early, look it up here (some polling locations for Early Voting may have changed since June). Hours vary by day during the early voting period. Your last chance to vote in the Primary will be on Election Day, this Tuesday.

Best,

Liz Krueger

State Senator

NYC Council Redistricting Public Hearing

The New York City Districting Commission will hold its Manhattan hearing about their preliminary maps for 51 new City Council districts this Monday, 8/22, from 5:30pm to 9pm at the Schomburg Center, 515 Malcolm X Blvd., Harlem. (There are also four other hearings, one in each of the four other boroughs.)

You can register to speak, virtually or in-person, at https://bit.ly/3AeDrQt or submit written testimony and/or suggested maps by email to [email protected], and by mail at NYC Districting Commission, 253 Broadway, 3rd Floor, NY, NY 10007.

THE CITY newspaper wrote up a useful guide to the city redistricting process here, and you can look at the commission's preliminary map here, laid out in comparison to current maps by Redistricting & You, a project from the CUNY Graduate Center.

Residents who would like to submit maps for their testimony may draw their own maps using DistrictR, a mapping tool.

Public Hearings on Congestion Pricing

The MTA has released the Environmental Assessment for the proposed congestion pricing program. Individuals have until September 9th to submit comments either in writing or at one of six virtual hearings.

The Environmental Assessment, including proposed toll amounts and impacts, is now available for review online and in more than 60 locations throughout the New York City metropolitan region (list of locations).

The hearings begin on Thursday, Aug. 25, and conclude on Wednesday, Aug. 31. Members of the public who wish to speak at the hearings can register online and find more information at mta.info/CBDTP. If you want to submit written comments by September 9th, click here.
