Dear John xxxxxx,
History was made in Washington this week when President Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act. This law makes the largest-ever federal investment in addressing the threat of climate change, lowers prescription drug costs, and implements commonsense measures to make wealthy individuals and corporations finally pay their fair share in taxes. Furthermore, small businesses and families making under $400,000 will not have to pay a penny more in taxes.
Another piece of legislation I am really excited about is a bill I introduced last week, the Ensuring Friendly Skies for Passengers Act. This bill will prohibit airlines from selling tickets for flights they know they do not have sufficient staff to operate. Canceled flights and flight delays have led to missed life events and time away from loved ones. The airline industry must be held accountable for the harm they are causing passengers.
I have also been working hard to keep our roads safe. Last week, I wrote to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to learn what actions are being taken to address the threat of Tesla’s advanced driver assistance systems. A recent report shows that Tesla’s vehicles were implicated in numerous crashes, including crashes involving serious injuries and five known deaths. These innovative systems have so much promise to make driving even safer and easier. But our drivers are not test dummies, and public roads are not test tracks.

This week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Foster Senior Club at Evanston's Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center. This amazing club celebrated its 65th anniversary! It was an honor to join the group for their in-person celebration, and I was ecstatic to share with them all of the latest good news coming out of Washington. Medicare will now be able to negotiate lower prescription drug costs and hearing aids will now be sold over the counter!
