Team,
I went into public office with one goal and one goal only: to make a positive impact. While policy is the most effective way to go about this, it’s not the only way: I also get to advocate for Virginians.
This week, our collective efforts to bring Asim Ghafoor home from the United Arab Emirates after a month-long detention paid off. With great relief, I am happy to see Asim has returned home safely and has been reunited with his anxious family.
Please sign the card to Asim, welcoming him back to Virginia.

The motives for Asim Ghafoor’s detention was suspect, and he was denied due process in his arrest. Stated simply, we witnessed an attempt to silence a fierce advocate of human rights. Today, the cause of justice won.
I hope you’ll join me in this monumental celebration of our efforts by signing his card.
Onward,
Senator Ghazala Hashmi
