John,

The 21-22 school year was the deadliest year on record for our children—and firearms are now the number one cause of death for children in the U.S.

Gun violence is preventable. And yet America is the ONLY country where children have to live in fear of when and where the next school shooting will happen.

This week, a video has gone viral of a mother preparing her young son for Kindergarten by teaching him how to respond to an active shooter. The video shows him with a Spiderman bulletproof backpack practicing hiding silently behind bookshelves. The mother is using lessons she learned from the active shooter drills she had in high school to try to help her son survive the unthinkable. We have forced an entire generation to live in fear of gun violence at school.

We don’t have to live like this. No mother should feel forced to try to prepare her son for a shooter to enter his Kindergarten class. We are fighting to support the policies and programs that we know work to prevent tragedies in the first place. Please donate $25 today so we can continue our lifesaving work: [link removed]

This year, the Alliance helped pass a law to prohibit high-capacity magazines, which were used in the Uvalde shooting and have been used in every single one of the deadliest mass shootings in the last decade. This is an enormous victory that we know will make our schools and communities safer.

This law just took effect last month, but our opponents have already filed a lawsuit to try to reverse this lifesaving bill. They are determined to do whatever it takes to undo our progress. We are going to have to fight tooth-and-nail to protect this law and to make sure tragedies like Uvalde don’t happen here.

We know what it takes to create the safe schools our kids deserve. But we won’t be able to do it alone. Please make a gift today to help us protect and build on the lifesaving progress we have made: [link removed]

Thank you for fighting alongside us.

— Renée
