The stakes of our must-win Senate election just got even higher.

The primary results are in, and Donald Trump's handpicked GOP candidate is now my official opponent.

If we lose this seat, it won't just mean that another Trump-backed extremist is in the Senate. It will also mean that Mitch McConnell has retaken control of the chamber – and that he'll have a radical new colleague to rubber stamp his disastrous GOP agenda. We simply cannot allow this nightmare scenario to come true.

But right now, with my imminent mid-month fundraising deadline, I do not have all the resources I need to take on my radical Republican opponent and defend this Senate seat. With the stakes so high, I'm counting on you to step up right away. So please, will you donate $5 or more to keep this seat blue and protect Democratic Senate control? Every dollar makes a difference as we work to bolster our campaign operations now that the general election is officially underway.

A Republican majority with McConnell at the helm would be an absolute nightmare for our country. We already know the kinds of dangerous policies that would follow: a national abortion ban; relentless attacks on voting rights, women, contraception, and the LGBTQ community; and obstruction of any attempts to make progress on protecting our planet – even as we live through a summer of unprecedented floods, droughts, and forest fires.

Simply put, the GOP would thwart any of President Biden's attempts to make progress for the American people. McConnell has promised he will block all nominations. So there go legislation and judges – everything. Period.

But if we protect every Democratic seat, we can avoid this nightmare scenario. That's why I'm asking you to dig deep today and give what you can to keep this seat blue.
