John,
It's no secret that we show up for our people. So to uplift Black Business Month in August, we are highlighting some of the Black businesses you submitted to us via email and social media! We have the power to uplift, advance, and protect Black businesses everywhere – and that's exactly what we're doing this month and every day.
Let's get into it, shall we?! 🥳
Posh Candle Company
Posh Candles Company is a one-woman, Black-owned business built from the ground up on the founder's passion for craft, design, entrepreneurship; and desire to create a life she loves. The mission is to inspire women to be their authentic selves by printing catchy, positive phrases onto candle flames. Along with providing wonderful products, they also support projects from organizations and fellow entrepreneurs who help women stay lit!
Demoir Books & Things
Demoir Books is a millennial-owned, independent, all-inclusive bookstore. ), It is also the first Black-owned bookstore in
Memphis, selling books ranging from trans issues and LGBTQ topics to the immigrant experience. Owner Jeremee DeMoir is an author, who also teaches English and creative writing at White Station Middle School. The store sells new and used books, comics, vintage books, DVDs, apparel, collectibles, toys & much more. Jeremee is providing a safe place and a wealth of resources for Black communities in Memphis and beyond.
Maya's Cookies
Maya's Cookie's is the #1 Black-owned gourmet vegan cookie company in the United States, with a local storefront in
San Diego, California. Maya Madsen started the business in 2015. As a longtime vegan, she struggled to find a gourmet, decadent vegan cookie that satisfied her sweet tooth so she started baking them herself! She went from baking for friends and family to participating in local farmers markets – and now, the business has boomed. Maya built the company from the ground up, so she works to give back to her community and provide resources to other Black business owners working to make their dreams a reality.
This month is more than just us highlighting Black businesses – it's also about sharing their stories with a goal of motivating and sparking the next generation of Black entrepreneurs evolving their dreams to reality.
If you're able, take 2 minutes and drop a Black business you love through our form.
In love and solidarity,
