Back to school safety: Police Department shares reminders

Back to school season is here! As the Village begins to bustle once again with children of all ages and school buses, the Police Department has a few safety reminders to share:

  • Do not stop on or otherwise block the streets around schools.
  • Do not pass a stopped school bus with its stop sign arm out and red lights flashing.
  • All school buses stop at train tracks. Do not pass buses on railroad crossings.
  • Motorists are reminded that the speed limit in all school zones when children are present, and in downtown Oswego, is 20 MPH.
  • Always stop for pedestrians, especially in crosswalks.

Extra police enforcement will be conducted in all school zones, especially during the first few weeks of school. As always, if you see something, say something, and please drive carefully. Thank you for keeping our community safe!

Mosquito abatement continues

Clarke will dispatch trucks to spray the entire Village starting Friday, August 18 at dusk. Clarke implements a comprehensive program that includes mosquito population surveillance, larval control and adult mosquito control to help minimize mosquito populations to prevent nuisance mosquitoes and help suppress any outbreaks of West Nile Virus. This program closely follows the recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and uses products registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Learn more about the Village's mosquito control program and how you can help eliminate these pests in your backyard and neighborhood.
