We need your help! New Jersey has a chance to transform the way its
criminal justice system treats moms, dads, and caregivers who are
separated from their children by incarceration.

After nearly two years of intense policy negotiations, advocacy, and
storytelling by #cut50 and our Dignity Ambassador Gale Muhammad of Women
Who Never Give Up, the State Assembly and Senate are finally voting on the
Dignity for Incarcerated Primary Caretaker Parent’s Act on Monday,
December 16th — the last day of legislative session!

We’ve partnered with a bipartisan coalition in New Jersey but we need your

  The bill, which is a part of our Dignity for Incarcerated Women campaign,
is transformative.

It would restore dignity, empathy, and compassion to New Jersey's criminal
justice system by:

* Placing incarcerated parents and caregivers in correctional facilities
as close as possible to a child’s place of residence; 
* Prohibiting solitary confinement and the shackling of pregnant
incarcerated women
* Adding parenting classes, trauma-informed care, and training
corrections officers on how to interact with victims of trauma.
* Opening the doors for formerly Incarcerated people on the outside to
go into facilities to mentor parents and assist them with reentry
* Provide feminine hygiene products that meet industry and health
standards, at no cost
* Dramatically increase oversight and accountability of prisons and
jails statewide. 

Everyday women go without their essential protections while incarcerated
and it’s time for a change.

We won't ever stop fighting to ensure the criminal justice system treats
people with DIGNITY. Help us bring important changes to the State of New
