You can’t make this up, John.

After historic climate legislation was signed by President Biden, Senator
Joe Manchin is trying to ram through a new bill in Congress that would
fast-track fossil fuel pipelines, including his pet project – the Mountain
Valley Pipeline.

There's still time to stop it, with your help.

The first draft of the bill has a watermark stamped “Draft - API”
referring to the fossil fuel lobbying group: American Petroleum Institute.
So, in case there was any confusion about who is behind this effort, it’s
written in plain ink.^1

Senator Manchin has taken more money from the fossil fuel industry than
any other politician in D.C. – and Big Oil has gotten its money’s worth a
thousand times over.^2

Climate Deal

This bill is a blatant example of fossil fuel companies buying off
politicians in Washington and we won’t let it stand. Congress can’t pass a
historic climate bill and follow up with a bill that fast-tracks fossil
fuel projects. We cannot sacrifice our communities and our planet for
Manchin.

We’ve made huge strides in the last two weeks. Now we must rise up to
demand that our members of Congress put a stop to Manchin’s side-deal that
would guarantee the Mountain Valley Pipeline is built and fast-track
fossil fuel projects across the country in our most vulnerable
communities.

up to the fossil fuel lobby and stop Manchin’s side deal?

If passed, this bill would:

* Severely weaken the governmental safeguards in place to prevent
community and environmental harm from many types of fossil fuel
projects.
* Create loopholes for certain projects to avoid National Environmental
Policy Act (NEPA) review altogether.
* Limit state authority under the Clean Water Act.
* Require federal agencies to take “all necessary actions” to permit the
Mountain Valley Pipeline’s construction and operation.

We are in the midst of a climate crisis and any legislation that guts
critical environmental protections, hamstrings the authority of federal
agencies, and fast-tracks unnecessary projects like the destructive
Mountain Valley Pipeline is unacceptable.

they put a stop to Manchin’s fossil fuel wishlist bill.

We’ll keep you posted on more ways you can get involved so stay tuned.

Thank you for speaking out today.
