This is not one of those emails where I compare not meeting our fundraising goals to the sky falling.

Yes, I’m running against four Republican opponents, including former Congressman Scott Taylor who we beat by just 2 points last year. And yes, national Republican groups are ready to spend millions to flip this district red.

(And yes, I’m going to ask you to make a matched donation before midnight because we didn’t meet our $25,000 goal during our 48-hour fundraising drive.)

But what’s at stake in this moment goes far beyond that -- Our country is at a turning point.

Our national security is threatened by Donald Trump’s willingness to compromise our safety for his own political gain. We need leaders who will hold this President accountable.

Our environment is under the growing threat of climate change, and we are already seeing its effects in Coastal Virginia. We need leaders who will take bold action.

Our families are struggling to make ends meet as wages remain stagnant, student loan debt increases, the cost of living goes up, and health care costs skyrocket. We need an economy that equips working people to get ahead.

What we’re up against is much more than a fundraising deadline, and what happens next is up to us. I’m determined to stay in this fight, but as Republicans gear up to take this seat back -- I need your help.
