Team – 102 years ago today, the 19th Amendment was ratified, granting women the sacred right to vote.

In honor of this momentous anniversary, I wanted to tell you a little bit about my family. But first, will you chip in $20 to help me hold this seat and continue fighting for the residents of MI-11?

At the turn of the 20th century, my great-grandmother, Teresa, immigrated to the United States and put down roots in a small Italian neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio. She had five daughters, including my grandmother, Pearl.

Back then, things were very different. Many people believed that women should rarely leave the house, and that politics was strictly men's business. But because of the courage, sacrifice, and protests of the women who came before me, I and millions of other women have the ability to make our voices heard.

Teresa was the first woman in my family to ever cast a ballot. Even as voting rights are still under attack in America, my great-grandmother’s courage has always inspired me to stand up for the right to vote.

We'll often face pushback while fighting for the things we believe in – as I’m sure you know, there will always be loud opponents of equality. But even as fundamental rights like the right to choose are being threatened here in Michigan and across the country, my grandmother’s bravery will always encourage me to keep up the fight.

I’m the first and only woman to represent MI-11, and that’s an honor I’ll never forget. Will you chip in to help me continue to make history and keep this seat blue?

I'll never forget the sacrifices of the women who came before us.
