In Liz Cheney's concession speech Tuesday, she warned "We have candidates
for Secretary of State who may refuse to report the actual results of the
popular vote in future elections."
She added, "No American should support election deniers for any position
of genuine responsibility, where their refusal to follow the rule of law
will corrupt our future.”
A Washington Post analysis backs up Cheney's concern, concluding:
"Election deniers are marching toward power in key 2024 battlegrounds."
[ [link removed] ]John, this is a five-alarm fire for our democracy. Can you
join thousands of PCCC members across the country donating to Democratic,
pro-democracy Secretaries of State campaigns in Arizona, Colorado,
Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, and Nevada? These officials could be our
last line of defense against efforts to overthrow democracy.
CNN agrees as well, warning that "The distinct possibility that some of
these secretaries will be people with a history of election denial is a
major challenge for American democracy."
The consequences of what's at stake are profound -- even in the immediate
aftermath of the 2024 election. The Washington Post reports, "A close
presidential contest that comes down to the outcome in states where
officials are willing to try to thwart the popular will could throw the
country into chaos" and "sow the seeds of civil strife on a scale even
greater than what the nation saw on Jan. 6, 2021."
Campaigns for secretary of state often fly under the radar. But this year,
Democrats cannot afford to ignore these races --and the candidates for
these crucial positions need our support.

Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, and Nevada who stand
between democracy and authoritarian takeover -- and help support our work
to elect honest vote counters.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
