John,
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy needs to go.
Despite the passage of the Postal Service Reform Act which brought an infusion of cash, DeJoy still plans to raise postage prices at “uncomfortable rates” around the country. Congress gave the USPS the ability to partner with local and state governments to bring in products and services, but all Louis DeJoy wants to do is slow down the mail and raise prices. In a recent Board of Governors meeting, DeJoy blamed inflation and proclaimed he will continue to raise postal rates to help pay off USPS’ outstanding debt.
DeJoy can’t cut his way out of debt. Providing less and doing it slower is not a model for success. Dejoy’s plan leads to the selling off of critical assets, closing locations, and privatization, all of which will have devastating impacts on thousands of postal employees and degrade services to Black, Brown, Indigenous, and rural communities.
With two more vacancies slated to open on the Postal Board this coming December, President Joe Biden must appoint Governors who will stand up to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s destructive leadership and advocate strongly for the expansion of USPS services.
Tell President Biden: Louis DeJoy must go!
The post office has served as a lifeline for millions of people across the country, including rural and Tribal communities, for more than a century. We cannot allow Louis DeJoy to destroy it in a decade.
It’s going to take all of us working together to ensure the United States Postal Service of the future is well-positioned to be the community hub that the people of our nation deserve.
President Biden must make sure the next two nominations to the Postal Board of Governors are up to the task of holding the Postmaster General accountable to the American people and understand that the USPS has always been, and should remain, a cherished public service.
Thank you for everything you’re doing to save the post office from the failed leadership of Louis DeJoy.
