THE AD COUNCIL
CREATE + CHANGE | AUGUST 2022
As we near the 2022 midterm elections, Americans’ trust in elections and election officials is low—and the mistrust spans the political spectrum. The Ad Council Research Institute’s latest study reflects young voters’ attitudes and actions during elections since 2018 and recommends the best way to reach young people with messages around voting in the upcoming elections.

New Creative Content from AIMM Emphasizes Multiculturalism in Marketing
The Ad Council is a proud member of the Alliance for Inclusive and Multicultural Marketing (AIMM). Two years ago, AIMM launched #SeeALL, an industry-wide movement created to drive increased and accurate representation of multicultural and inclusive communities. This year, AIMM worked with members to create content that advances the efforts of #SeeALL and urges us to look at the world from a different perspective. Watch the “Good In All” spot, which first debuted at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in June.

Young Voters in the 2022 Midterms
Young Americans believe voting is their civic duty, but many are left wondering if their vote really matters – or if our system of government needs major reform before it will. More than 90% of young voters from each party are pessimistic about the power of the vote to bring about change and are frustrated with what’s happening in Congress. These, along with other key insights, were captured as part of our newly published Ad Council Research Institute multi-phase, mixed-methods research study. Intended to help brands and causes understand how they can effectively encourage young people to vote, the first phase of the Messaging Young Voters in the 2022 Midterms Report includes an environmental scan, social listening and qualitative analysis designed to understand young voters’ motivations and potential barriers.

New Dance Challenge Addresses Youth Vaping
We partnered with the American Lung Association to launch a new series of public service ads (PSAs) encouraging parents to hold proactive conversations with their kids about the dangers of vaping. The new PSAs tap into pop culture and viral dance video trends to connect parents and their kids, segueing into more serious conversations about the severe impact of vaping. The spots feature dancer, social media influencer and anti-vaping activist Russell Horning, “The Backpack Kid,” who gained fame after his “Flossing” dance video went viral.
