Dear Friend,

Every once in a while, one of our readers will ask why we don't just run
ads or charge for subscriptions as other news outlets do.

Wouldn't that be easier than sending all these fundraising emails?

Maybe, but we like it better this way. You see, if we accepted money for
ads, we'd be accountable to advertisers instead of readers. And we
believe news should never sit behind a paywall only available to a
select few—denying many access to the coverage they need to organize and
fight back against wealthy corporations.

Common Dreams is different than corporate news outlets because our
mission is different: To inform. To inspire. To ignite change for the
common good.

Our goal is to chase facts—not clicks, ad dollars, or profits. And the
only way we can stay true to that mission is if our funding comes from
the people we serve: you, our readers.
