** Removing Barriers to the Ballot Box: A Conversation With Author Gilda Daniels ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Date: Tuesday, August 23, 2022
Time: 11:30 a.m. Eastern/8:30 a.m. Pacific

When it was signed into law in 1965, the Voting Rights Act protected and expanded the freedom to vote for millions of voters (especially voters in the American South). Unfortunately, the gradual weakening of this landmark civil rights law has led to a massive increase in barriers to the ballot box for voters of color, voters experiencing poverty and senior citizen voters, undermining a right that is the basis of their other rights as American citizens.
How did we get to this point? On Tuesday, August 23 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern/8:30 a.m. Pacific, CLC will host a virtual conversation with author Gilda Daniels to talk about her book, "Uncounted: The Crisis of Voter Suppression in America." Gilda will chat with CLC's Paul Smith about the forces that are creating deliberate barriers to voting now, through the lens of history, race, law and the democratic process.
