Trust Conference keynote speaker announced
We’re excited to announce that UN Young Leader and pioneering climate activist, Vanessa Nakate, will be joining us as a keynote speaker on the second day of Trust Conference.
Vanessa campaigns to highlight the interdependencies of climate change, gender inequality and poverty – particularly on the African content, ‘the frontlines of the climate crisis’ – and calls for bolder policy solutions, with human rights at their core. She was listed as one of the BBC's 100 Women 2020 and the 100 Most Influential Young Africans.

Media Freedom:
Understanding the laws relating to "fake news" in Russia
Through TrustLaw, our global pro bono service, we have launched a powerful legal guide to help journalists and newsrooms understand the new laws relating to “fake news” in Russia. The guide provides practical information to help media professionals navigate the new legislation, which poses a significant threat to free speech and independent journalism for local and international press covering the crisis in Ukraine. The guide was co-produced by the Committee to Protect Journalists, with pro bono legal research provided by Hogan Lovells. Read more.
Did you miss the launch of TRFilter?
This summer, in collaboration with our partner, Google's Jigsaw, we were delighted to launch access to TRFilter. The free web application allows users to document online harassment and abuse, so they can regain control of their social media feeds, take action against perpetrators, and protect their well-being.
TRFilter syncs with your Twitter account, automatically recognising and flagging harmful comments. It allows you to hide comments and mute or block accounts at scale - without having to review the content. Users can also create reports to download and share with third parties, such as newsroom management or law enforcement. For further information, take a look at our FAQs. Roundtable Insights: Competition Law and Responsible Business Practices
The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked social and economic disruptions across the globe. Among those most vulnerable to these impacts have been workers lower down in supply chains. Earlier this year, the Thomson Reuters Foundation brought together legal professionals and corporate leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities of upholding responsible business practices and to encourage collaboration amongst peers. The Cost-of-Living Crisis: The Human Impact
People around the world are facing increasing pressures on their day-to-day lives. Food, energy bills and living costs are rocketing as inflation reaches record levels due to the crisis in Ukraine, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and rising global instability. The Thomson Reuters Foundation’s news team spoke to people living in 18 countries around the world in an attempt to gauge the human impact of the crisis. Read here.
Human Rights:
Horrors and loss haunt Beirut blast survivors two years on
As Lebanon marks the second anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s news team spoke to four survivors who described what happened to them, including a Sudanese migrant worker, a gay bartender and drag queen, a journalist and a bank worker. Read here.
Singapore’s recycling water story
Singapore is one of the most water-stressed countries in the world; one innovative solution they’ve implemented to address this issue is recycling sewage water. They call it ‘NEWater’, and it meets 40% of the country’s water needs. The majority of the ‘NEWater’ is used for industrial use, with a small portion being used as tap water. Now the government has partnered with a local brewery to create a beer called ‘NEWBrew’, made from recycled drinking water. Watch our new video on innovative solutions to the water crisis here.

Opportunities:
Project Manager, Programmes: Based in London, this two-year FTC will lead a strategic project focusing on the intersecting issues of climate action, inequality and labour rights. The project is part of our Inclusive Economies work and aims to shape public discourse in local and international media by providing context, analysis and news, whilst amplifying the voices of civil society, workers, affected communities and experts. The ideal candidate must have strong experience in managing projects and driving programme quality, be a self-starter, effective communicator, and problem-solver.
Technical Product Manager, Product & Technology: Based in London or Gdańsk, this 24-month FTC will support the ongoing and future development of TRFilter, our online harassment management tool.
Legal Manager, Media Freedom: Based in London, the Legal Manager will provide dedicated project leadership to conceptualise, develop and implement a new legal offering to support journalists and independent newsrooms, working closely with the TrustLaw and Media Freedom teams.
Experience Cloud Developer, TrustLaw: Based in India, this 12-month FTC will help to transform the TrustLaw Members’ Portal, developing features to take it from a simple platform,- through which we connect high-impact NGOs and social enterprises with leading law firms and corporate legal teams to an interactive ecosystem that also offers opportunities for learning, knowledge-sharing, innovation, networking and collaboration.
Programmes Team Coordinator, Programmes: Based in London, this two-year FTC will work closely with colleagues in the Programmes Team and across the Foundation and play a key role in supporting the effective coordination of all Programmes Team-related administrative and support tasks.
