Because so many people like you never gave up, Friend, the Icebreaker Wind Farm <[link removed]>was finally given the go-ahead <[link removed]> to begin construction following an Ohio Supreme Court ruling Wednesday, Aug. 10.
The 6-turbine wind farm generating 21.7 megawatts located 8-10 miles off the coast of Cleveland in Lake Erie will be the first freshwater wind farm installation in North America.
It faced significant hurdles the last few years, including:
- a "poison pill" former Ohio Power Siting Board chair Sam Randazzo inserted into his permit approval that would have prevented operation of the turbines during peak evening hours and
- the lawsuit filed by two Bratenahl residents that was partially funded by coal baron Bob Murray and was just decided by the Ohio Supreme Court.
This is an important win for our environment and our economy, helping combat air pollution and climate change while also creating jobs and injecting money into the local economy.
The ruling also highlights how important it is to vote for pro-climate candidates in the upcoming Ohio Supreme Court races.

Calendar records show <[link removed]> that Governor Mike DeWine met repeatedly to discuss energy policy with FirstEnergy Corp. officials and at least once with GOP House Speaker Larry Householder during the battle to pass House Bill 6.
He was involved in discussions, he hand-picked and pushed through a PUCO Chairman who was instrumental in getting the bill passed, and he signed the legislation within hours of passage.

Lt. Gov. Jon Husted said in November that he played no role in the legislative committee process for HB6, but after text messages between now-fired FirstEnergy executives became public, he now says that while he "wasn't involved in the legislative process" of passing the infamous House Bill 6 energy law, he "encouraged all through that process – publicly, privately – that the bill pass <[link removed]>."
