John –
Seven years ago today, a shooter walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School with an assault weapon. In just over four minutes, he shot 154 bullets, instantly killing 20 children and six educators in their classrooms.
Four minutes to take the lives of 20 children and six educators.
This horrific massacre should have been the moment our country said enough is enough and banned assault weapons, once and for all.
But just months after this tragedy, the NRA’s bought-and-paid-for lawmakers stood with Mitch McConnell and blocked common-sense, lifesaving gun legislation. And in the years since, we’ve seen the devastating effects of this inaction – assault weapons used in massacres from Parkland to Las Vegas.
The solution is obvious: Ban military-style assault weapons now (sign the petition) →
Assault weapons continue to be the weapon of choice for those who commit mass shootings and murder our children. Since the federal assault weapons ban expired in 2004, mass shooting deaths have increased by 347%.
But Mitch McConnell has shown he’ll do anything – including stopping bipartisan legislation – to protect the gun lobby rather than our children.
So on this day, we ask that you join us in recommitting to making sure no family or community has to experience a tragedy like Sandy Hook ever again. We have to defeat Mitch McConnell and the NRA’s obstruction – but right now, we need you standing with us to say enough is enough. So please, will you sign the petition now to ban assault weapons and save lives?
If we take action, we can prevent the next Sandy Hook massacre – but we can’t do that without you standing with us.
It’s in our hands,
Kris Brown
