Hi Reader,

ProPublica’s mission is to hold people in power to account, including those at the very highest levels of our government. After the 2016 election, tens of thousands of readers took a stand for transparency and accountability by donating to ProPublica. As we approach another election year, and in the midst of historic impeachment proceedings, I want to share with you some of what we’ve done with the support of ProPublicans just like you.

We’re examining the Trump Administration

We’ve had an ongoing investigation into the back-room, shadow rulers of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. We’ve been tracking failures at the Department of Housing and Urban Development under Secretary Ben Carson. We reported on how Vice President Mike Pence has influenced foreign aid to get funding rerouted to Christian groups. And we found an unprecedented number of lobbyists now working inside the Trump Administration.

We’re digging deep into Trump’s businesses

We unearthed some of Trump’s business tax records, and found that he reported two different sets of numbers to the government and investors (what one expert called “possible fraud”). We reported that regulators found the Trump Taj Mahal’s money laundering controls were so lacking that it amounted to “willful” violation of the law. And we revealed how taxpayers cover the expenses when the State Department spends money and puts profits into Trump’s businesses, including things like a $1,000 bar tab at Mar-a-Lago.

We’re investigating Trump’s inner circle

When it comes to President Trump’s closest confidants, we reported how Ivanka and Donald, Jr. were once close to being charged with felony fraud due to misleading sales statements about Trump Soho. We’ve shined a light on Jared Kushner’s slumlord-like behavior in his company’s Baltimore-area rental complexes, and the curious story of how he got into Harvard. We’ve looked at the President’s personal lawyers from Marc Kasowitz to Michael Cohen and more recently, Rudy Giuliani’s ties with Ukraine. And we pulled back the curtain to reveal the real story of the “genius” behind Trump’s reelection campaign, Brad Parscale.

We’re following the effects of Trump’s policies

President Trump launched his presidency with new, restrictive immigration policies and we’ve been following developments ever since. From the chaotic effects of the travel bans, to the heartbreaking sounds of children separated from their parents at the border, to the inhumane treatment of a sick migrant boy who died in his holding cell, and the cover up that followed, ProPublica has been shining a light on what these policies look like in real life. Regarding Trump’s tariff policies, we’ve covered how they have left some U.S. companies struggling.

We have no intention of slowing down now. ProPublica is the largest investigative newsroom in the country. No matter who holds the power in our government, you can count on us to dig deep to find the stories they’d rather keep hidden, and report it all back to you.

Investigative journalism is a xxxxxx of our democracy, and it’s more critical than ever before. But we need your help to keep going
