Peter Thiel is an entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist. He started PayPal in 1998, defining a new era of fast and secure online commerce. In 2004 he made the first outside investment in Facebook where he served on the board of the company, now known as Meta (FB), from 2005 to 2022. Mr. Thiel is a partner at Founders Fund, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm that has funded companies like SpaceX and Airbnb. He leads the Thiel Foundation which works to advance technological progress and long-term thinking about the future. Mr. Thiel is also the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future.
PRI's 2022 Taube Family Freedom Prize Recipient
Kiron Skinner is the incoming Taube Professor for International Relations and Politics at the Pepperdine University School of Public Policy. She previously served as the Taube Professor for International Relations and Politics at Carnegie Mellon University's Institute for Politics and Strategy and was a faculty member at CMU. Skinner continues to serve as the W. Glenn Campbell Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Skinner's past government service includes serving as the director of the office of policy planning and senior advisor at the US Department of State (2018-19). Skinner is an award-winning and best-selling author with particular scholarship focused on the life and public policy of former president Ronald Reagan. Her coauthored books Reagan, In His Own Hand (2001) and Reagan, A Life in Letters (2003) were New York Times best sellers.
