For more than two years now, the AZ GOP has broken with reality. From the initial bogus “audits,” to multiple officials' role in the events of January 6, and all the nonsense since then, it’s been absolutely mind-boggling.
Nothing has satisfied the AZ GOP’s rabid desire for control, and they have refused to believe anything other than their own lies and conspiracy theories. When the August primary rolled around, we witnessed one last attempt to see if Republicans could salvage their party.
But as the New York Times notes, Arizona Republicans instead nominated anti-democracy candidates up and down the ballot. It’s not limited to one or two races. From the U.S. Senate down to state legislative races, AZ Republicans will not commit to anything other than electing Donald Trump again in 2024. No matter what the votes say.
Fake electors, those at the Capitol on January 6, and some that encompass both are on the ballot for the AZ GOP. It’s not hyperbole – our democracy will be at risk if Republicans win in November.
It’s so bad in the AZ GOP, the word democracy itself has become toxic and Joseph McCarthy has become a beloved figure.
