I am so proud of the great progress we’ve made for folks in North Texas over the past couple of weeks. Yesterday, President Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act, which makes a historic investment in the middle class, while reducing the deficit.

The Inflation Reduction Act lowers health care and prescription drug costs and also makes the largest commitment to fighting the climate crisis in our nation’s history, which will create clean energy jobs and lower energy costs for North Texans.

We also passed the bipartisan PACT Act, to ensure that veterans exposed to toxic burn pits while serving our country get the care they’ve earned. It is the largest health care and benefit expansion in VA history. It will help as many as 3.5 million veterans who were exposed to toxins while serving. I was honored to vote for its passage in the House and am so glad that my colleagues in the Senate prevailed in honoring our pact to veterans and sending it to President Biden who signed it into law last week.

Also last week, President Biden signed the CHIPS and Science Act into law. The CHIPS and Science Act will spur production of more goods and technology in America and will ramp up Texas manufacturing of semiconductor chips, which power so many things from cell phones to cars. I have been calling for this bill’s passage for a long time and am encouraged by the major investments companies have already made right here in Texas, including investments in semiconductor facilities from Richardson-based Texas Instruments, a new $5 billion GlobalWafers facility in Sherman, and a $17 billion Samsung plant near Austin, all of which will have a huge economic impact on our state.
