Last night, voters in Wyoming resoundingly rejected Rep. Liz Cheney, punishing her for her patriotic, country-over-party leadership holding Trump and his band of criminals accountable.
Whatever disagreements we have with Liz Cheney, we can say at least that they are rooted in policy, philosophy, and how we wish to make America and our union more perfect. In stark contrast to the dangerous and destructive cult of personality that Donald Trump has cultivated among his followers, Rep. Cheney has displayed honor and patriotic duty over party.
While leaders like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois are driven out of the GOP, radical conspiracy theorists, election deniers, and Trump loyalists are rapidly elevated to positions of power and as candidates for office at all levels.
As someone who has put their life at risk to serve and protect their country, I am enraged and disgusted by what is happening in the Republican Party. My opponent, Ken Buck, has worked harder to stay in Trump’s good graces and pander to the MAGA base than he has ever worked to further the interests of the people of this district. He is no better and no different than the Big Lie peddlers who lick Trump’s boots and turn their backs on America.
We will deliver a shock to the MAGA system when we defeat enablers like Buck. While he works to curry favor with Trump, my campaign is talking to the people he has left behind and failed, earning their support and building a new coalition that can win.
Ike McCorkle is a Purple Heart recipient, Marine Force Recon Vet, and the Democratic nominee in Colorado's 4th Congressional District, running against the racist, corrupt, misogynistic Ken Buck.
