Last Sunday, Florida Governor and prominent MAGA figure, Ron DeSantis, visited southeastern New Mexico in an attempt to raise his national profile and bolster NM GOP candidates who share similar extremist views– specifically, Mark Ronchetti and Yvette Herrell. Of course, aspiring to be MAGA darlings themselves, Ronchetti and Herrell jumped at the opportunity to rub shoulders with the radical DeSantis– and we should all be alarmed.
Radical DeSantis defended his homophobic Don’t Say Gay bill, attacked the FBI and their lawful search of Trump’s Florida Mar-a-Lago estate, and defended his mishandling of the COVID pandemic in his state, during which his irresponsibility cost thousands of lives– all while Mark Ronchetti and Yvette Herrell watched in admiration. Not only that, Ronchetti barred a respected New Mexico journalist from covering the event, an affront to transparency and the First Amendment.
