This week, I was proud to help secure $1.8 billion for North Carolina military installations to support our brave men and women in uniform and help Camp Lejeune recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence.
I was also proud to lead bipartisan efforts to provide the largest pay raise for our servicemembers in nearly a decade and address the housing crisis affecting installations across the country, including Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune. This bipartisan legislation is a big win for North Carolina’s servicemembers and our military families.
We finally saw the end of House Democrats delaying the passage of USMCA with political exercises like their ongoing partisan impeachment attempt. The USMCA will provide a great boost to North Carolina’s small businesses and hardworking farmers.
I also questioned Inspector General Michael Horowitz over the alleged FISA abuse during the 2016 election. The report is deeply disturbing, revealing numerous missteps and interference during the FBI’s investigation into President Trump and raising serious questions about the competency, integrity, and impartiality of some elements of the Department of Justice.
This week, I was featured in a national video campaign on Facebook to promote opioid treatment. Opioid use disorder and opioid-related death are serious issues across the country, including North Carolina. In 2017, 2,414 North Carolinians died from a drug overdose and every 11 minutes opioids take another life in America.
Thank you for reading my e-newsletter, I will continue to work hard to represent all North Carolinians in the Senate and deliver results. If you or someone you know is having trouble with the VA or any federal agency, please don't hesitate to contact my office.
All the best,
