John --

At a recent event in Lexington, a man named Gordon raised a concern about my opponent, Senator Thom Tillis, allowing President Trump to take $80 million from our men and women in uniform for his sham emergency declaration. Here’s what I told Gordon, and what I’ll tell you today:

Back in February, Senator Tillis wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post where he said no president should use the Emergency Powers Act to fund a border wall.

Several weeks later, he walked onto the Senate floor and voted to give President Trump exactly that authority -- in what the Fayetteville Observer called an “Olympic gold flip-flop.”

So, who got the invoice to pay for the wall? We got it at Fort Bragg. We got it at Camp Lejeune. We got it at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

You don’t represent North Carolina and then walk away from military families and veterans — and compromise the national security of our country. Shame on Thom Tillis for that.

Multiple Republicans had the courage to stand up and do what’s right by our military families, but not Tillis. He consistently shows the people of North Carolina that he’s just too weak to do the right thing.

The people of our state know they deserve a leader who will look out for them, not just play political games. Will you make a contribution of $10 or more to support our campaign for Senate in North Carolina?

As someone who knows those communities very personally, who has served at Fort Bragg, who is attached to a Reserve unit today that’s headquartered at Fort Bragg, and who has served with the Airborne at Fort Bragg -- I know what it means to represent those families and communities.

North Carolina needs elected officials who will stand up for our state, not a weak politician who puts his own self-interest first. We deserve better, and that’s why your donation is so important.
