Creating Supportive and Affirming School Environments
Many schools were barely beginning to address the needs of LGBTQ students. Now legislative backlash is creating higher stakes for children who are trying to find their place in the world. As an onslaught of anti-LGBTQ efforts—particularly against trans and nonbinary youth—continues, it’s imperative for educators, parents and caregivers to help young people understand that justice requires an appreciation for the value of identity and diversity among individuals, and that there are actions to take to ensure equity.
