** We the people pay them a damn good salary. The least they can do is show up as they spend us into oblivion.

Washington Times ([link removed]) (7/16/22) op-ed: "Last week, 158 members of the House of Representatives, many of them already on vacation, gave their vote on the reconciliation legislation, known as the Inflation Reduction Act, to someone else. This proxy voting, initially established during the COVID-19 pandemic, is a perfect symbol of all that is wrong with Congress. People didn’t even bother to show up to debate and vote on legislation that many of them later described in statements as 'historic.' If you can’t show up for a historic vote, what are the chances you’ll show up to do the routine work of legislating? It’s understandable. Now that congressional leadership is writing large, incomprehensible legislation in secret and presenting it at the last minute for a vote — the Congressional Budget Office didn’t even have time to score the legislation, which may be a first — what’s the point of making an
appearance? You may as well stay home and tweet about the vote. The problem is, of course, that such legislation — and the acquiescence of House members in the entire process — is a direct threat to the institution. The Constitution is direct and to the point: 'All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.' It does not say that all legislative powers shall be granted to congressional leadership, nor to a clique of senators, nor to any subset of Congress."

** “Construction costs are already too high due to inflation and national supply chain challenges. Banning fossil fuels in new developments will only increase costs further. This ban would be especially problematic in a city like Boston, which produces huge levels of housing and is an economic engine for all development. Housing production is key to overcoming our state’s housing crisis.”

This is who the "most transparent, least corrupt administration in history" chose to maintain the "scientific integrity" of the White House Office of Science™.

** E&E News ([link removed])
(8/16/22) reports: "The National Academy of Sciences has sanctioned a top White House climate official for a prior conflict-of-interest offense, following a petition from a conservative group. Jane Lubchenco, deputy director at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, has been the target of an American Accountability Foundation petition over an article she peer-reviewed prior to joining the Biden administration. The article, 'A global network of marine protected areas for food,' was retracted last year after the journal discovered Lubchenco violated its ethics codes. Specifically, Lubchenco had previously collaborated with the authors, one of whom is her brother-in-law. And the paper, which appeared in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, had technical errors. Axios was first to report the news, and an NAS spokesperson confirmed Lubchenco has been 'barred for five years from being involved in NAS publications; serving on or participating in NAS and National
Academies program activities; and receiving NAS honors or awards.' The sanction went into effect Aug. 8. Lubchenco, who has led OSTP’s scientific integrity and other work, said in a statement this afternoon: 'I accept these sanctions for my error in judgment in editing a paper authored by some of my research collaborators — an error for which I have publicly stated my regret.'"

The New York Times endorses Harriet Hageman and they don't even realize it...

** New York Times ([link removed])
(8/16/22) reports: "Representative Liz Cheney has drawn most of the attention in the race for Wyoming’s lone congressional seat thanks to her vocal denunciations of former President Donald J. Trump and what she describes as the threats to democracy posed by his far-right followers. But the challenger who unseated her in Tuesday’s Republican primary, Harriet Hageman, has a track record in Wyoming of fierce advocacy on issues particularly relevant to the state’s ranchers, energy and mining interests. She spent decades as a trial lawyer fighting environmentalists in America’s least populated state and opposing federal rules protecting land, water and endangered species. Her most far-reaching case was a successful challenge of Clinton-era federal regulations to protect millions of acres of National Forests from road-building, mining and other development. A federal judge placed an injunction on the regulations in 2003. Ms. Hageman also represented groups that sought to remove protections for
the gray wolf under the Endangered Species Act and allow the state to manage hunting. As an unsuccessful candidate for governor in 2018, she suggested transferring one million acres of federal land to the state, which opponents warned would have led to selling off prized hunting, fishing and hiking areas...At a luncheon last week for the Chamber of Commerce of Rock Springs, a community built on fossil-fuel extraction, Ms. Hageman promised to be a champion in Washington for those industries if elected. 'I think we need to make the federal government largely irrelevant to our everyday lives,' Ms. Hageman told the audience."
