Nearly two years after his appointment, the United States Postal Service continues to languish under Trump-holdover Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s failing leadership. Right now, DeJoy is raising postage prices at “uncomfortable rates” around the country, slowing down our mail, and shuttering numerous post office locations.

To oust DeJoy, we must have a USPS Board of Governors who is willing to do just that and work towards saving one of our most beloved institutions. Only the USPS Board can fire DeJoy, and that’s exactly what they should do after his numerous failings, conflicts of interest, and destructive leadership. President Biden has the opportunity to ensure that.

There are two vacancies slated to open on the Postal Board this coming December, and President Joe Biden will have the opportunity to appoint governors who will stand up to DeJoy’s destructive leadership and advocate strongly for the expansion of USPS services.

President Biden must make sure the next two nominations to the Postal Board of Governors are up to the task of firing the Postmaster General and understand that the USPS has always been, and should remain, a cherished public service.
