Here in Northern New Jersey, we know how high the cost of living can be. As a mother of four kids, trust me -- I get it.
Last week, I was proud to take another important step to lower costs and vote for the Inflation Reduction Act. Yesterday, the president signed it into law.
This piece of legislation accomplishes a lot:
- It gives Medicare the power to negotiate lower prices and extends health care subsidies for lower premiums on the health exchange. Lowering health care costs -- including prescription drug prices -- has been a top priority for me since I first ran for Congress and we’re seeing those efforts pay off.
- It’s the largest effort in U.S. history to combat climate change. It puts us on track to reduce emissions by about 40% by 2030 and will create good-paying jobs along the way.
- It reduces the deficit and makes sure our country’s largest corporations pay their fair share, cracking down on tax evasion and creating a fairer tax code -- a common-sense way to strengthen our economy.
We’re investing in the middle class and making life more affordable for New Jersey families, and we’re seeing the results of our efforts in strong jobs reports and lower prices at the gas pump over the past couple of months.
I want to be clear -- this is a first step. I promise to keep working to lower costs and make our state more affordable for New Jerseyans.
Thank you and all the best,
Mikie
