Students across the district are heading back to school. Teachers are planning lessons. Parents are buying school supplies and preparing to send their kids off for a new year of learning.
But as it stands, every child's education is not equal. A child's zip code directly impacts the quality of education they will receive, leaving children in low-income areas with less resources than peers who live in wealthier areas.
And teachers, who are tasked with watching over and shaping the minds of the next generation, are often underpaid and undervalued despite the critical work they are doing each and every day.
As a federal education policy expert and former member of her local school board, Christy understands the problems that our education system faces today. And she is so proud that her daughter is starting her first year teaching in a public school.
From preschool to grad school, Christy is working to invest in local public classrooms so that we can hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and pay teachers livable wages.
But in order to truly fix our education system, more policymakers need to be on board with the program.
