I'm reaching out because we have an important fundraising deadline at midnight, and we need your help meeting our goal. Republicans are stooping to new lows trying to influence this election, so before I ask for your support, here’s what you need to know about our race in IL-17.
- This month, FiveThirtyEight deemed our race “Illinois’ most hotly contested House seat.” According to their analysis, this race is literally 50-50 headed into the general election.
- Shortly after, my opponent Esther King got a fundraising boost from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. He admitted he’s staking his career on this race, and made clear that national Republicans plan to bankroll her candidacy to win the House.
- As a result, reputable election analysts at Inside Elections downgraded the 17th District from “Tilt Democratic” to “Toss-up”. After Kevin McCarthy moved in for King, they predicted her cash advantage would make this race even closer.
- We also got word that far-right extremists sent hateful, bigoted mailers about me to Illinois voters. The homophobic mailers showed that the far right will stoop to the lowest levels to attack me and slow our momentum.
This race is heating up, and It’s clear the GOP won’t bother to maintain common decency in their effort to flip the House.
