John
President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law today, marking a first step in lowering the costs of prescription drugs and healthcare and investing in renewable energy—paid for by taxing big corporations.
For over a year, corporate Democrats Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema have blocked progress. Due to their sabotage, the bill leaves out many of the life-changing social programs from our original Build Back Better legislation, while giving handouts to the polluting fossil fuel industry at the expense of frontline communities.
The Inflation Reduction Act only happened because our progressive movement demanded that Congress deliver long-overdue climate and healthcare investments. But we have more work to do to go bigger and bolder without compromise and ensure that our government works for the people rather than for corporations.
Please chip in today to our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC so we can elect strong progressives to Congress in this year’s midterm elections and take power away from corporate Democrats. We’ve got to build progressive power in order to make the sweeping changes that people urgently need,

I will keep fighting for the life-changing programs we’ve passed in the House of Representatives, including Medicare expansion, national paid leave, a permanent expanded Child Tax Credit, universal pre-K and child care, and so much more. I'm also going to keep fighting for Medicare for All.
And I promise I am going to fight like hell to oppose Senator Manchin’s fossil fuel giveaways, including fossil fuel leasing on public lands and waters, and false climate solutions peddled by the fossil fuel industry like carbon capture.
Our government must follow the lead of communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis, including heeding the call of environmental justice leaders to end fossil fuel extraction. Instead, this bill further harms communities already poisoned by corporate polluters and treated as sacrifice zones—all without their input in an unjust and undemocratic process.
I will fight against Manchin’s planned “side deal” to fast-track fossil fuel permitting, which would roll back important environmental laws, accelerate climate change, and pollute Black, brown, Indigenous and low-income communities. I will also keep urging President Biden to declare a climate emergency and pushing for legislation like the Environmental Justice for All Act.
The work is not over. Together, we can keep making the sweeping changes that working families urgently need in order to thrive.
If you can, please chip in $5 or more to our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC today so we can keep building our progressive power in Congress.
In solidarity,
Rashida
