John, do you remember President Dewey? I don't either — that's because Thomas Dewey never became president. (I know this is starting to sound like a history lesson, but just bear with me for a minute here.)
You see, way back in 1948, the GOP and all the pundits were 100% sure that Dewey was going to beat Harry Truman and win the presidential election. In fact, they were so certain of it, that newspapers went ahead and printed Dewey's victory in the next day's edition!!
But against all the odds and what all the so-called "experts" were saying, Harry Truman, a proud Missourian, defeated Dewey and became our 33rd president.
When I hear DC insiders write off our state as MAGA territory, I remember Truman — how he stuck to his values, put in the work, and proved the naysayers wrong. Our election this November is not the first time that political elites have underestimated leaders from Missouri. And 1948 won't be the last time that Missourians prove the GOP wrong at the ballot box.
Just like Truman, I am dedicated to making sure that everyone has access to a great education, safe and affordable housing, and quality healthcare. And just like Truman, I am ready to beat all the odds and win this thing in November.
But Truman didn't win in 1948 all by himself, and I won't win in 2022 if I don't have grassroots folks like you standing with me. So please, if you're ready to prove the pundits and the GOP wrong in November, will you pitch in with a donation right now? I believe in this campaign, and I believe in the people of Missouri. I hope you do, too.
