Stand With Salman:
Defend the Freedom to Write

Friday Aug. 19 | 11 am ET
Steps of The New York Public Library
Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street

Writers worldwide stand in solidarity with Salman Rushdie and celebrate his extraordinary literary accomplishments, undaunted courage, and tireless advocacy for the freedom of expression and the plight of imperiled writers everywhere.

Join PEN America, The New York Public Library, and Penguin Random House as we gather with Rushdie's friends, fellow members of the literary community, and readers to share selected texts from his body of work.

Those offering readings include: Paul Auster, Reginald Dwayne Betts, Tina Brown, Kiran Desai, Andrea Elliott, Amanda Foreman, A.M. Homes, Siri Hustvedt, Hari Kunzru, Colum McCann, Douglas Murray, Andrew Solomon, and Gay Talese. Other partners include the House of Speakeasy.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own signs to wish Salman Rushdie a speedy recovery. This event will also be livestreamed.
