The GOP knows that Trump picked a loser in Arizona's Blake Masters. Masters is an extremist who's staked out even-further Right positions than Trump himself o n everything from Abortion Policy ( National Ban ) to Gun Violence ( h e openly blames Black People ).
Masters is even a more extremist version of Trump on the future of American Democracy ( " I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatibl e ” ).
The GOP knows that if it has to defend Masters' actual positions , it will lose.
