Friends,
Six years ago, when I ran to serve in the Minnesota House of Representatives, nobody thought it was possible that a Muslim, immigrant, refugee, Black, hijabi woman could win, especially against a 44-year incumbent. But I didn't let their doubts stop me from running — and I won.
A couple of years later, this movement helped elect me to Congress to represent Minnesota's Fifth District and become one of the first Muslim women to serve, alongside Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. And now, after defeating my conservative primary opponent last week, I'm one step closer to serving the people of Minnesota's Fifth District a third time.
All of this is a testament to the power of our people-first movement. Right-wing super PACs and billionaires have spent millions of dollars to silence us, far-right Republicans have launched relentless attacks against us, and the status quo has tried to block our transformative policies at every turn.
But we have never given up on our shared belief in a brighter future, one where we see social, racial, economic, and environmental justice for all. And we have overcome every single attack thrown at us.
Now, we’re up against a far-right Republican challenger who’s raised more than $2 million against us. We need to show everyone, from our challenger to the pundits, how strong our movement is over these next few months.
One way we’ll prove our strength is by continuing to bring in thousands of grassroots donations to power our organizing work. Another is by showing how big our campaign is. That’s why I’m reaching out today:
Will you add your name to our list of progressive supporters right now? It would mean a lot to see your name and know that you’re standing with me and our movement.
In solidarity,
Ilhan Omar
