Join LIRS for "One Year Later: The Long Welcome for Afghan Evacuees" on August 18!

One year ago this week, Afghanistan fell under Taliban control, prompting a historic evacuation that brought 76,000 Afghans to the United States. The year that followed was momentous—from the massive outpouring of support from the American people, to the large-scale national resettlement effort, and tireless advocacy on behalf of our new neighbors.

Join Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service for a webinar on August 18 at 11 a.m. ET as we both reflect on the successes and challenges of the last year and look ahead to what's next. Hear from our staff about where Afghan families are today, proposed legislation to support and protect Afghans in the U.S. and abroad, and how your community can support new Americans.

To commemorate the one-year anniversary of the evacuation, we spoke with several Afghan staff from our Northern Virginia office and asked them to share reflections on the successes and challenges of the past year.

Hear from Muzhgan and Nassir.

Now that the Afghan Adjustment Act has been introduced, it's more important than ever to contact your Congressperson and urge them to pass the bill as soon as possible. The safety and security of our Afghan neighbors depend on it!
