Conservative Jeanne Ives just announced her challenge to Democratic Congressman Sean Casten in Illinois’ 6th District. Yes—the same Jeanne Ives who infamously ran an ad attacking women’s reproductive rights, denigrating immigrants, and mocking the LGBTQ+ community.
We worked so hard last year to elect Sean to give a voice to the people of the 6th District and win a Democratic majority in the House. Now, all that is at risk as the Republicans prepare to spend millions of dollars to unseat Sean and install an extreme conservative in his place.
Sean is fighting for Illinois and for all of us in Congress, helping break through GOP obstruction and pass the first major bill on climate change out of the House in more than a decade. This is the kind of leadership we need, but it also makes him a top target for Republicans in 2020.
When she unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for Governor of Illinois, Ives accepted $2.5 million from a single GOP megadonor, Richard Uihlein. There’s no question that Uihlein and other millionaires will join the special interests and bankroll Ives’ 2020 campaign, putting all of our progress and our newly-won Democratic majority in the House at risk.
