Hi ,
You’re invited to join Poynter at the largest performing arts center in the Southeast on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, for an evening with Julie Pace, senior vice president and executive director of The Associated Press (AP).
Meet us at the Straz Center in Tampa, Florida, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time to learn how the AP approaches its coverage of the world’s top stories — like tracking climate change and declaring election winners — that billions of people rely on each day. |

Pace, who spent some of her earliest years in journalism at the former Tampa Tribune, will also discuss the honor — and challenges — of leading the 176-year-old organization’s global news operations in an environment rife with mis- and disinformation.
The conversation will be moderated by Poynter President Neil Brown and cover everything from the U.S. midterms and the Supreme Court to global warming and the war in Ukraine. And, we’ll take a closer look at the AP’s initiatives to elevate fact-based journalism during an audience Q&A.
To show our appreciation for your support of quality journalism, you’re invited to secure your spot now — before tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, Aug. 19.

VIP tickets include exclusive access to a reception and intimate pre-program interview with Pace. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will start being served to VIP guests at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time.
This event kicks off Poynter at The Straz, which will feature three events throughout the 2022-2023 season that stoke civil and thoughtful expression, promote a deeper understanding of journalism’s critical role in democracy and improve the quality of life in the Tampa Bay region and beyond.
We hope to see you at The Straz!
