John,
For those of you who don’t know, August is Black Business Month!
In the United States, Black-owned businesses make up only 2.4% of all businesses. We are 12.8% of the population, we should represent at least 12.8% of business ownership and economic opportunity. This is well below the percentage it should be. Shopping or dining at a Black-owned business is an easy way to build economic equity, stability and prosperity in our community.
There are many Black owned businesses for us to support in San Francisco, this month and year-round! Many are right here in District 10.
Some of my favorites are The Shop and Camisha’s Cakes! When you patron a local Black-owned business this August, tweet me where you went and how it was. I’m always looking for recommendations for Black entrepreneurs to support in our neighborhood!
Happy August,
Shamann
